We’re making a final push toward reopening on Tuesday! The Museum will be open on a three-day schedule: Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11-4. Volunteers have been working hard to install new displays and freshen up some standing displays. Virtually every showcase has been filled with new stories, such as “Women Vote!,” highlighting what was happening here as women gained the right to vote in their first national election in 1920. A related exhibit features Excelsior’s own CIA (that’s Civic Improvement Association), a group of formidable local female civic and business leaders active long before suffrage. In addition, "40 Years of Community Theater" highlights the performances, actors and visionaries who have provided four decades of entertainment and talent showcases for the local community. On the Francis Hall side of the Museum, the local mineral water history of the community is newly told. Medical items from the Museum’s collections are now displayed to better advantage, emphasizing the unusual significance of the medical community to the development of the town in its earliest days. Also, the west wall now features historic business signs, awaiting their chance to trigger old memories and new stories. As we reopen, the safety of our visitors and volunteers remains our foremost concern. Our all-volunteer staff will wear masks, practice social distancing, and follow new cleaning protocols before and after opening, along with a mid-day cleaning break (12:30-1 p.m.) Visitors also will be asked to wear masks and maintain social distancing. They are encouraged to pay the $5 entrance fee by credit card. Museum tours will be self-directed, with volunteers available (at a safe social distance) to answer questions. The visit will be limited to 1½ hours. Visitors will be required to sign in with contact information, and they will be provided a dated business card with the Museum’s contact information. Museum staff will continue to monitor community conditions and follow the guidance of county health authorities. ... See MoreSee Less
